Obituary

Albert Philip Foster of Canaan, passed away peacefully at his home on August 8, 2006.  He was 84. Albert was born on August 26, 1921, in North Adams, MA to Albert Wilmarth and Lucy Lillian Blood Foster.  He was educated in local Stamford, VT  schools, where he grew up and was a member of the 1940 class of the Vermont Technical College, in Randolph, VT. Phil owned and worked on Dairy Farms in the Stamford and Manchester, VT areas for most of his life.  His own farm was the Foster Dairy farm in Stamford, VT. He came to the West Stockbridge area to manage the "Baldwin" Farm on West Center Road, retiring from there in 1966.  From 1966 to 1987, he worked for General Electric at the former Power transformer Division, Pittsfield, MA.  The years following his work he spent with his wife June, whom he married September, 1, 1945, at her families home in Clarksburg. He and his wife took their camper and visited every state in the United States. He also enjoyed gardening, camping and helping his wife with puttering around the house. Phil was a member of Wisdom Lodge A.F. & A.M. in West Stockbridge and the West Stockbridge Congregational Church. He is survived by his wife June G. Daniels Foster; two daughters, Pamela Foster and Carrie Foster Bither, both of Canaan, NY; 2 grandsons, William Martin Bither III, and David Ray Bither, both of Canaan, NY; a great-granddaughter Abriana Bither and a great grandson Alexander Bither, he is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 2 brothers John E. and Clayton Foster; a sister Lois Foster Berard and a son Lansing Ray Foster who died in infancy.   There will be no calling hours.  Graveside services will be conducted by Pastor James Osborne of the Bible Baptist Church, Ghent, NY at 11am Saturday, August 12th at the Millard Cemetery, Stanford, VT. A reception for family and friends will take place at 3pm at the home of Carrie Foster Bither, 18 Old Queechy Road, Canaan, NY.Memorial contributions made be made to the New England Chapter, Huntington Disease Society of America in care of the Funeral Home, in his memory.Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to The French, Gifford, Preiter & Blasl Funeral Home, Chatham, NY.
