Alice E. Kie 97 of West Stockbridge, MA died Thursday February 1st at Laurel Lakes Nursing Home in Lee. MA. Born November 11, 1909 in West Stockbridge to George A and Mary Ann Gleason Kie, Alice grew up there and attended and graduated Pittsfield High School, Class of 1929. A life long resident of West Stockbridge, Alice remained at home and provided company to her parents. She enjoyed needle point, tatting and crocheting. During World War II, she knitted socks and sweaters for service men and received a special award from the Red Cross in 1946 for her help. Alice was a member of the Grange and a member of the Christian Science Church. Alice remained home until health issues had her move to the Laurel Lakes Nursing Home in Lee, MA. She is survived by her cousins: Clara McCagg Kratt of East Chatham, NY and Clarence McCagg of Pensacola, FL, six nieces: Gloria Sweet Gilman of Hudson Falls, NY, Roberta Sweet Whiteley and her husband John of Ticonderoga, NY, Dorothy Kie Lane of Pittsfield, MA, Mary Kie Crabtree of Kansas, Vivian Kie of West Stockbridge, MA and Rita Kie Goodno of Pittsfield, MA, and two nephews: David Kie of Pittsfield, MA and William Kie of West Stockbridge, MA. She was predeceased by her parents, one brother William Kie, her sister Myrtle Kie Sweet, and a cousin; Harry McCagg. Family will receive friends at the French, Gifford, Preiter and Blasl funeral Home, 25 Railroad Avenue, Chatham, NY on Friday February 9th from 2 to 3 PM. Services will follow directly after at the funeral home. Interment will take place at the West Stockbridge Cemetery in the spring.
