Barbel (Babs) Jonas of East Chatham died October 7th at Saint Peters Hospital. She was born to Alfred and Eva "Ziegler" Nowak in Triptis Germany on August 3, 1941. Educated in Germany she later met Ferdinand "Fred" Jonas and they were married there January 30, 1965. Together they moved to the United States and settled in Coram Long Island and later moved to Shorham, New York. She worked in banking starting as a teller and moving to assistant branch manager until she left to raise a family. Babs and her family moved to Red Rock in 1978 and later to East Chatham in 1986. Her life was devoted to her husband and son. In her spare time she enjoyed working in her flower garden. She thoroughly enjoyed people and loved animals. She is survived by her beloved husband Fred, her son and daughter-in-law Mark and Jennifer Jonas, her sisters; Jutta Neu and Ruth Hinsreiner in Germany, several nieces and a nephew. Family will receive friends at the French, Gifford, Preiter & Blasl Funeral Home, 25 Railroad Ave., Chatham, NY Wednesday October 10th from 5 to 9pm. Religious services will be conducted on Thursday at the funeral home at 2pm, interment will follow at Cemetery of the Evergreens in New Lebanon.
