Obituary

Benzion Jacob Rapoport, 84, a resident of Canaan, NY for 50 years, passed away on Friday, April 18, in Lenox, MA. Dr. Rapoport was born in Szczuczyn, Poland on Dec. 11, 1929. He survived the Warsaw Ghetto and internment camps in Germany and France before moving to the United States as a teenager after World War II. He graduated from Brooklyn College before earning a Master's Degree in Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Yeshiva University. Dr. Rapoport was a practicing psychotherapist for more than forty years. He also co-founded the internationally known guitar string company DR Strings. Dr. Rapoport is survived by his wife, Gloria Rapoport, his son, Aaron Rapoport, his daughters, Lisa Rapoport and Faye Rapoport DesPres, his sons-in-law, Leslie O'Connor and Jean-Paul Des Pres, and two grandchildren, Levi and Temma Rapoport-O'Connor. In lieu of flowers, the family asks friends to plant a tree in Israel in Dr. Rapoport's name through the Jewish National Fund or to donate, if interested, to another Jewish charity.
