Obituary

Bruce L. Whiteman 76 of Chatham passed away August 7th at St. Peter's Hospital after a brief illness. Born November 15, 1938 in Hudson he was the son of the late Raymond and Noreen Aldrich Whiteman. He is survived by his wife of 58 years Betty, his daughters Jaimee (Kevin) Boehme of Chatham, Kimberley (Keith) Wheeler of Milan, his son Bruce Butch (Diane) Whiteman of Craryville, Grandchildren Ian (Stephnie) Boehme, Ryen Boehme, Heather, Ashley and Grayson Wheeler and Anthony, Tricia and Annie Whiteman, sisters Mary Jane Walsh of North Chatham and Noreen Mickey (Mike) Knox of Pleasant Valley, sister in laws Susan (David) Prior, Darlene Bell and Gloria Shook, many nieces, nephews and a large extended family of cousins. He graduated Chatham High School and went on to Albany Business College. Later he attended Beltone Hearing School of Business and then the Municipal Police Training School as a member of the class of 1978.  Bruce worked 55 years as a hearing aid consultant retiring in 2015, he spent 17 years with the Columbia County Sheriff's Department in marine patrol. He was the past chief and 54 year member of the Spencertown Fire Company. He worked several years to get Spencertown's original 1931 Seagraves fire truck back for the company. Family will receive friends at the French, Gifford, Preiter and Blasl Funeral Home on Monday August 10th from 4-7 pm. There will be a prayer service at the funeral home on Tuesday at 2pm with interment at Spencertown Cemetery.
