Carol D. Duso, 77, passed away peacefully at home in Chatham on August 26, 2026 surrounded by close family and holding the hands of her husband and children. She was born on January 9, 1949 to Lester and Marjorie (Rossman) Holt Sr. in Hudson, NY.
Carol will be remembered as a woman who centered her life on family, hospitality, and the simple joys that brought people together. She worked for many years as a waitress and hostess at the Neptune Restaurant in Hudson, where her warmth and welcoming nature were part of the experience for so many. At home, she was known as a great cook who delighted in holding wonderful gatherings, especially at Christmas time, when her home and table reflected her generous spirit.
She enjoyed cooking and found happiness in time spent with others; whether bowling, golfing, taking casino trips, or playing cards and games. Carol also treasured the family’s camp on Lake Winnipesaukee, specifically on Cow Island, a place she and her husband enjoyed for many years. There, they took their family and friends, went fishing and made countless cherished memories on the lake. Above all, Carol’s life was defined by the love she shared with her family.
She is survived by her devoted husband and best friend of 58 years, Richard Duso; her children Scott (Meg) Duso, Darren (Carrie) Duso, and Kelly (Sean) McKenna; she also leaves behind her seven grandchildren, Christopher, Amanda, Taylor, Audrey, Andrew, Bridget and Bradley as well as her six great-grandchildren, Brian, Haisley, Landon, Blake, Lachlan and Everett. She is also survived by her brother, Lester (Maritza) Holt Jr. and her nieces, Erika and Leslie. Carol was loved by many extended family members and very dear friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 19 from 12-4 at the Chatham Fire Department, 2 Hoffman Street, Chatham, NY 12037.
Arrangements are entrusted to Robert M. Donaghue & Michael R. Blasl, French, Gifford, Preiter & Blasl Funeral Home, Chatham.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Carol’s memory may be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or the Community Hospice of Columbia and Greene Counties.
