Catalina Tanaka, 82, of Hudson, passed away on October 17, 2026, with her family by her side at Albany Medical Center. She was born on October 9, 1944, in Manhattan to the late Ramero and Betty (Rodumska) Iglesias.
Born and raised in New York, Catalina graduated from beautician school in New York City, an accomplishment that reflected her dedication and determination. Throughout her life, she brought warmth and care to those around her. She was known for her sense of humor, for being a great listener, and for having a heart of gold. She would do anything to help anyone in need and had a special way of making others feel better. On April 30, 1965 she married Franklin Tanaka in the Methodist church, on June 5, 1965, they confirmed their marriage in the Catholic Church. Her Catholic faith stayed centered throughout much of her life. In 1978, they moved to Chatham to raise their family.
Catalina found joy in many simple and meaningful pleasures. She had a wonderful voice and loved listening to Johnny Mathis. She enjoyed crocheting and drawing, pursuits that reflected both her creativity and her gentle spirit. She also loved traveling with her family, especially to places with water and the mountains, where time together became treasured memories.
Above all, Catalina loved her family. She was especially devoted to her grandchildren and cherished every opportunity to spend time with them. Her love for her family was at the center of her life, and was felt in the care, warmth, and encouragement she gave so freely.
Catalina is survived by her beloved husband, Frank Tanaka, and by her children, Dawn (Thomas) Myer, Stephanie Tanaka (Bob Bemis), David Pervosti, Susan Rodriguez, Jason (Ashley) Tanaka and Michael Tanaka. In addition to her fifteen grandchildren and one great granddaughter. She is also survived by nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her parents and by her sister, Marie.
Those who knew Catalina will remember a woman of compassion, humor, talent, and deep love for her family. In honoring her wishes there will be no formal funeral services, rather the family asks that you hold onto the special memories you and Catalina shared.
Arrangements have been respectfully entrusted to Robert M. Donaghue, French, Gifford, Preiter & Blasl Funeral Home, Chatham.
