Charlotte Jane Davy Fennell

March 21, 1942 – August 7, 2024

Charlotte was born in Scotland, and it was her primary home and place of education – and where her heart lay and where she always revisited, throughout her life.

Charlotte was the eldest and much-loved sibling to four sisters and a brother, in order of age – Alastair, Jean, Lila, and Bobbi. To her siblings, Charlotte was the long-limbed, elegant epitome of sophistication who did the best things in the most unexpected ways.

A citizen of the world, Charlotte traveled far and often, but she always came home to add a touch of glamour and elegance to family life, before jetting off again. By the time her youngest sister was born, Charlotte had traveled across Europe, setting up camp in the South of Spain, where she was drawn into the slightly dubious but lucrative trade of dealing in paperweights.

In the 1960s Charlotte traveled across Europe before setting sail for the USA, where she landed at Parke-Bernet Galleries in New York cataloging netsuke and paperweights, a job that would change her life when she met her husband, Rupert.

Rupert and Charlotte were married in December of 1973 in New York City where they resided for the following 2 years. In 1975 the happy couple moved to the city of Angels, Los Angeles, CA, where their son Simon was born and where they lived happily for 12 years.

The Fennell's returned East in 1986, splitting time between NYC and Spencertown, finally moving up to Spencertown full-time in 1998. Charlotte immediately endeared herself to the community, volunteering to help wherever needed---especially at the Spencertown Academy.

Charlotte was a caring friend and neighbor; devoted wife and mother and she will be greatly missed by the scores of people whose lives she touched. She is survived by her husband Rupert and son Simon, her sisters, Lila, Jean, and Bobbi and her brother, Alastair.

There will be a memorial service celebrating Charlotte's life will be held at St. Peter's Church in Spencertown, NY starting at 2:00 PM, Monday, October 14th. Condolences may be conveyed at frenchblasl.com.
