FLYNN - Daniel E. Flynn, 71, of East Chatham, NY, formerly of Buffalo, passed away on August 15, 2012 in the St. Peter's Hospital, Albany after a long and courageous battle with colon cancer. He was born in Buffalo on February 4, 1941, son of the late Daniel F. Flynn and Carolyn (Newton) Beatty and stepson of Blanche (Dubey) Flynn.
Dan graduated from Gannon University, Erie PA in 1960 with a B.A. in History. Family, friends, and service to his church and community were foremost in Dan's life. He married his childhood sweetheart Elaine Lutz in 1964 and proudly served with the New York State Police as a Trooper for 30 years. During that time he was an E-VOC instructor, a speed enforcer instructor, and a field training officer. Later he worked at the Columbia County Sheriff's department. After 911 Dan was called out of retirement to work as security at the State Capitol. He was a longtime communicant of St. James Church in Chatham where he was an usher and member of the Knights of Columbus. Dan was devoted to his family and especially loved being Poppup to his two granddaughters. Friends were like family to Dan. He and Elaine traveled often to Buffalo to visit childhood friends, especially those from Immaculate Heart of Mary Elementary School and Bishop Timon - St. Jude High School.
He will be greatly missed by his family.
He is survived by his loving wife, Elaine Lutz Flynn, his children: Colleen M. Flynn Laraway (Richard) East Chatham; Danielle C. Wright (Mark), Stratford, CT and Sean M. Flynn (Tammi) Norwich, CT, his grandchildren: Amanda and Sarah Wright, his brother: Dr. Ronald Meagher (Sue) Edmonds, Washington, his sisters Teri Houston, West Seneca, NY; Bonnie Jean Nation (John) The Villages, Florida (formerly of Buffalo, NY); Carol Antersol (Roger), North Tonawanda, NY; Frank Beatty, Buffalo, NY.
The family would like to thank Dr. Brian Steckle; Dr. Garbo and the nurses and staff of New York Oncology and Hematology at Patroon Creek, Albany, NY; the nursing staff on the 6th floor and Hospice of St. Peter's Hospital, Albany, NY.
Family will receive friends on Sunday, August 19th from 4 to 8pm at the French, Gifford, Preiter & Blasl funeral Home, Chatham, NY. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10am in St. James Church. Interment will follow at the Canaan Cemetery.
