Daniel E. Curtis, Sr. died at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson, NY on Saturday, December 26, 2015. He was born on January 14, 1946 to Edwin B. and Alice (Dalzell) Curtis in Hudson, NY. He graduated from Chatham High School in 1964. He was a lineman for New York State Electric & Gas Corp. until his retirement in 2010.
Dan was a Past President and Past Captain of Sanford W. Smith Hook & Ladder Co. and was also a member of the Tri Village Fire Department. He was a member of Columbia Lodge, No. 98, F. & A.M. and the Chatham Lions Club. Dan was an avid auto racing fan, and a fan of the New York Yankees and the New York Jets. He enjoyed driving his self-restored 1969 Corvette, having received many trophies at car shows. He also enjoyed hobbies of genealogy, music trivia and cooking.
He is survived by his children, Daniel E. Curtis, Jr. (Tina), Gwyneth A. Marayne (Sarah Fuller), Amanda Bleyl (Thomas) and Abigail Curtis (Jeffrey Wolf). Also, seven grandchildren, Danielle Curtis, Bradley Curtis, Nicholas Curtis, Jacob Curtis, Alex Curtis, Alyssa Bleyl and Thomas Bleyl III. He is also survived by his sister, Alice Curtis Davis, and nephew Theodore Sweet. He was predeceased by his parents and an infant brother, Edwin Dwayne.
Calling hours will be Monday, December 28, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the French, Gifford, Preiter & Blasl Funeral Home at 25 Railroad Ave, Chatham, NY 12037, where funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 29, with interment at the Chatham Rural Cemetery.
