Obituary

Dolores "Pete" Novine died peacefully at her home on September 24th and passed into the waiting arms of her husband Stosh, who predeceased her in 2008. During the last 96 years her favorite role was that of wife to Stosh Novine. They were a team who enjoyed 66 years of married life. As children of the Great Depression and young adults in WWII, they were familiar with hard work and sacrifice, but their relationship brought them joy and levity. Pete was born on October 7, 1920 to Charlotte and Albert Macarthy, Sr. She was predeceased by her sister Ida Kosnick and her brother Albert "Smokey" Macarthy, Jr. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. Pete worked in several garment factories in the area: Dave Strang's in Philmont and Chesters' in Chatham although in later years Stosh did her hemming. She also worked at Chatham Manufacturing--Pen and Pencil factory. She began working for Columbia Rensselaer Telephone in 1956 as an operator and retired from Taconic Telephone 27 years later in 1983 as supervisor. Pete was a very social creature. She and Stosh had a group of friends who remained close throughout the years. Pete was generous and supportive of others. She provided help to those in need, often in the form of meals delivered to their homes. She was the queen of mashed potatoes and also whipped out countless apple pies and chocolate pies. Pete worked at the Ghent Food Pantry and was a member of the Ghent VFW Ladies' Auxiliary since 1948. She attended St. James Catholic Church in Chatham. One of her favorite visitors was Father Gary who consistently brightened her mood during her final illness. At Pete's request there will be no calling hours. A graveside service for family and friends will be held Wednesday September 27th. at 11am at St. James Cemetery. Arrangements are with French, Gifford, Preiter & Blasl Funeral Home, Chatham, N.Y. Donations may be made to St. James Church, Chatham, N.Y. 12037 or to the Ghent Food Pantry, P.O. Box 98, Ghent, NY 12075
