Obituary

Donald R. Radley, 86, of Chatham, died February 22 at his home surrounded by his family and with the support and care of the Community Hospice of Columbia/ Greene Counties. Born September 22, 1920 in Watertown, New York, he was the son of Charles E. and Flora Brown Radley. Mr. Radley was a graduate of Philmont High School and Albany Business College.  He was a World War II veteran having served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946.  Most of his service time was spent in the Pacific area during World War II.  Upon his discharge he had attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. He worked briefly at the Watervliet Arsenal and then for the Columbia Corporation, from which he retired after 39 years at age 65. He enjoyed Bowling, swimming, and touring the country.  He was also a member of the American Legion Post 42, Chatham, NY. Survivors include a brother and sister-in-law Robert F. and Virginia Radley of Latham, a son Brian of Chatham, three daughters, Barbara Haywood (Skip Proper) of Philmont, Patrice Torrey (Joseph) of Ghent and Terri Dizacomo (Rohn Merchant) of Chatham; five grandchildren Alisa Blanco (Marlon) of Pittsford, Scott Radley (Kristin) of Schenectady, John Haywood III (Jennifer) of Albany, Vanessa Radley of Chatham and Devlin Dizacomo of Chatham and two great grandchildren Melissa and Andrew Blanco of Pittsford, along with several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Marie (Kelly) Radley, a brother Charles F., a sister Margaret (Peggy) Chilson and a son Donald Jr. Family will receive friends Sunday, February 25th. from 4 to 7pm at the French, Gifford, Preiter & Blasl Funeral Home, 25 Railroad Avenue, Chatham, NY. Religious services will be conducted by the Reverend Gary Gelfenbien of St. James Church, at the funeral home on Monday at 11am.  Interment will follow at Saint James Cemetery, Ghent.
