Earl J. McCagg Jr. passed away on November 28, 2018 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born February 5, 1936 and was the son of the late Earl Sr. and Ruby Dedrick McCagg.
Earl grew up in White Mills and attended Chatham Schools. Upon graduation he enlisted in the US Army and while serving he met his future wife while stationed in Manchester Ct. They were married November 21, 1959 and had just celebrated their 59th anniversary.
He worked at Deep Acres Farm in Kinderhook and then as a contractor for Irish Builders in Kinderhook until he retired. Even retired he still worked as Earl's Home Repair and became known for his bird houses.
Earl was mostly a homebody but he did enjoy hunting and fishing and especially enjoyed cutting his firewood on Saturday's. He loved gardening at home along with watching all kinds of sports. He was a true sports fan especially of NASCAR, and the Mets but his true love was the NY Giants.
He is survived by his wife, Jean (nee Martin), his daughters; Linda (Billy) Whiteman of Old Chatham, Lisa (Fred Jr.) Engel of Buckleyville and Laurie (Tim) Jackson of Chatham, his grandchildren; Chelsea and Jesse Whiteman, Carrie (Tanner Winter) and Ethan Engel and Taylor, Erika and Kyle Jackson.
Family will receive friends Saturday December 1st at the French, Gifford, Preiter & Blasl Funeral Home from 11am to noon when services will be offered at the funeral home.
