Edith Jennie Cargain, 72, of Columbiaville, NY entered into eternal rest peacefully at home on August 8, 2015 following a long battle with cancer. Born on February 20, 1943 in Sharon, CT. she was the daughter of the late Mildred and Harold Rothrock
Edie graduated Dover Plains High School in 1961 and Mildred Elley Secretarial School in Albany the following year. After working for the CIA in Washington, DC, she married Douglas Cargain on May 30, 1964. Doug was stationed in Norfolk, VA in the Navy, and they lived in England, Florida, and Puerto Rico and returned to New York State in 1969. In 1974, they adopted their daughter from South Korea and shortly thereafter settled in Ghent.
Edie enjoyed canning vegetables, reading, crocheting and was known for baking desserts for family, friends, coworkers, and even her doctor's offices. It was her tradition to crochet snowflakes at Christmas for all of her coworkers at Wal-Mart. She read her Bible every day. Edie loved her cats, hot baths, tea, and being a mother and grandmother.
Surviving is Doug, her beloved husband of 51 years, her daughter Michele O'Connell, son in law, Ryan O'Connell, and the joys of her life, grandsons Evan and Matthew O'Connell, all of North Haven, CT. Her rescue cats, Sophie and Misty will miss her dearly.
