Edward H. Hunt, a lifelong resident of Chatham, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2026, at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany. He was born on March 7, 1945, in New York, and lived a life defined by hard work, independence, and deep devotion to his family.
Ed attended Chatham Central School, and after worked alongside many peers in his industry, where he developed the strong work ethic that would guide him throughout his life. Known for his quiet determination and “do, don’t talk” approach, he became a skilled craftsman who took pride in building homes using materials from the land. He began working in local body and mechanic shops as a teenager, and over time turned that passion into a successful business, owning and operating Hunt’s Taconic Automotive in Chatham for many years.
In addition to his work in the automotive field, Ed shared an entrepreneurial spirit with his beloved wife, Donna. Together, they owned and operated Donna’s Country Grill, a place that reflected their shared dedication and love of community.
Ed was truly at home outdoors. A Harley enthusiast and avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, camping, and traveling with Donna in their many campers over the years. He also had a gift for bringing people together, anyone who attended a “Hunt Party on the Hill” knew they were in for a memorable and entertaining time.
He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Donna; his children, Scott Hunt (Lori), Melanie Hunt (Alan Perry), and Kelly Colarusso (Rob); and his daughter-in-law, Terri Hunt. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Ed is further survived by his siblings, Gloria Koener, Virginia Hunt, and Grant Hunt, as well as many nieces and nephews, who affectionately nicknamed him “Uncle Horrible.”
He was predeceased by his parents, Lillian (Castelle) Hunt and Kenneth Hunt; his son, Brian Hunt; and his brother, Gary Hunt.
Family and friends are invited to gather on Saturday, April 18, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at French, Gifford, Preiter & Blasl Funeral Home, 25 Railroad Avenue, Chatham. A funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m., followed by interment at East Nassau Cemetery.
