Edward V. Jacobs

Edward V. Jacobs, 87, of Ghent, New York, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2026, in Ghent Rehabilitation & Nursing Center. He was born on April 6, 1939, in Schenectady, NY, the son of Edward and Irene Jacobs of Galway, NY.

Raised on a farm, Ed was most at home in the country and took pride in hard work. Despite the early hours, he enjoyed his job as a milk tester for more than fifty years. His children have fond memories of helping him out on the farms during their high school years, cleverly enticed by Ed with fresh donuts from the Chatham Bakery at 3:30 a.m., even if listening to country music on the truck radio was part of the deal. Ed made friends easily and will be remembered for his kind gentle manner and his sense of humor. He enjoyed family vacations to the shore each August, and after the kids left home, more exciting trips to California, Hawaii, Las Vegas, and on several cruise ships. The love of his life, his wife, Helen, was by his side for it all and will miss him dearly.

Ed met Helen at a dance when he was 19 years old, and they were married on May 29, 1960. They shared a life together filled with love, devoted companionship and cherished memories.

In addition to Helen, Ed will be remembered with love by his children, Linda Jacobs, Tony (Christina) Jacobs, and Michael (Jennifer) Jacobs. He also leaves a cherished legacy in his grandchildren, Christine (Fred) Seestadt, Matthew (Jenny) Bryant, Samantha Livingston, Rebecca (Adam Wingate) Jacobs, Ethan Jacobs, Sarah Jacobs, Heather Jacobs, and Gregory Jacobs. His family circle continued to grow through his great-grandchildren, Damien, Cameron, Payton, Maddison, Hailey, and Andrew, each of whom was part of the generations that followed him with pride and affection. He is also survived by his sister, Joanne Sandusky, and his brothers, John Jacobs, Richard Jacobs, Bill Jacobs, and Fred Jacobs.

Ed was preceded in death by his brothers, Peter Jacobs and Donald Jacobs.

Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation on Friday, October 23, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Saint James Catholic Church, 117 Hudson Avenue, Chatham, New York 12037. A Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m. in church.

Edward V. Jacobs will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother whose life was deeply rooted in family. His memory will remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
