Edwin E. Barden, SR., born December 11, 1923 in Spencertown, NY, he spent his entire adult life working hard and helping others. Known as 'Bud' to his friends and neighbors, he was the honorary Mayor of Spencertown. He served in the Army in WWII in India. At 60, he retired from the state. He was Constable for the Town of Austerlitz for many years. He was a member of the Spencertown Fire Company for over 65 years, serving as part of the Fire Police team in later years. Bud was a communicant at St. James Church in Chatham. He was a member of the American Legion, and the Columbia Car Club. Until recently, he was a volunteer driver for Meals on Wheels. Bud loved to hunt, work on small engines, listen to country music, and watch old westerns. His family was his life.He is predeceased by his wife Virginia, his son Bud, Jr., his grandson Michael Hoover, one brother and two sisters. Surviving are his son, John and daughter-in-law Liz of Spencertown; granddaughters Theresa of Copake Falls, Patricia of Chatham, and Carole of Clifton Park; grandson Bud of Spencertown; great-grandchildren Emily, Ethan, Dylan, and Samantha; and sister Marion Goodrich of Chatham. He is also survived by numerous 'adopted' grandsons in the Spencertown area. Family will receive friends Tuesday at the French, Gifford, Preiter & Blasl funeral home, Chatham NY from 2-4 & 7-9pm.
