Edwin J. Martin Jr.
Born on October 22, 1928 in Mt. Vernon, NY to Edwin J. Martin Sr. and Elsie Braun Martin. His family moved to Austerlitz in 1935 and graduated from Chatham H.S. in 1948 where he excelled at 6 man football, track, and baseball, even trying out for the NY Yankees. After graduation, he worked as a mason until he began his career with Crellin Plastics, where he worked for over 37 years. After retiring from Crellins, he worked for the Executive Line (Chatco) for 5 years, retired and worked with Blasl Funeral Home until 2015.
Ed was a lifetime member of the Order of the Blue Vests, The Chatham Fire Department, and the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the Kinderhook Elks and the Chatham Village Board, and a faithful communicant of the Catholic Church.
For years Ed was a Boy Scout Leader, loved taking his family on camping vacations and spending time with his family and friends. Ed was an accomplished musician, playing drums for multiple bands over the years.
Ed is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Marilyn (DeVane) Martin, with whom he had 6 children: Edwin Martin III(Lorraine), Cherylee Martin-Endryck, Paul R. Martin, Adam J. Martin(Rebecca), and almost adopted sons: Ron Zucco, and Meyer Meyerson. He is also survived by his sister Rosmary Doleski and his brother James A. Martin, 14 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He is predeceased by 2 sons, Kevin E. Martin and Steven D. Martin, and an older sister Beatrice Bruisie.
Family will receive friends on Friday, January 27th at the French, Gifford, Preiter & Blasl Funeral Home from 2-4 & 6-8 Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday in Saint James Church at 11am.
