Eleanor Chaikowski, 96, of the FASNY Fireman's Home, passed away on March 10th 2026 after a short illness. Eleanor was born to Alexander and Patricia (Keller) Dixon of Tarrytown on October 28th 1929, the youngest of three siblings. She had been employed by V&O press as a keypunch operator and retired from Red Apple Realty and the Frank W. Starkes Insurance Agency.
Eleanor was active in the community. She was a den mother for years with Cub Scout Pack 121 of Claverack, a past president and charter member of the A.B. Shaw Fire Company Auxiliary, a home room mother for the Claverack Union Free school as well as an active member of their Parent/Teacher Group.
Once retired, Elly continued her activity by her participation in the Red Hat Divas of Hudson, as well as the Claverack and Taconic Seniors clubs. Whenever her friend Muriel called with a travel idea, she was ready in an instant, chasing the next adventure without hesitation. She will be remembered for the love and care of family and her kind and generous spirit.
She was predeceased by her brother Matthew, her sister Leona (Melgary) and her husband Stephan.
She is survived by two sons: Michael of Nashville, Tennessee and Paul of Mellenville with his wife Deborah (Miller) as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the caregivers and staff of the FASNY Fireman's Home as well as Columbia Memorial hospital for their compassionate care and dedication.
Calling hours will be held at the FASNY Fireman's Home on March 18th from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the A.B. Shaw Fire Company and the FASNY Fireman's Home.
