Elizabeth (Liz) H. Wurtzinger Scannell the beloved wife of Robert J. Scannell for 67 ½ years, passed away November 18, 2011, at the Pine Haven Nursing Home. She was born November 20th, 1920 in Allentown PA. Elizabeth has resided in Ghent, New York for 66 years on Scannell Road; she opened the door to creativity and discovery for her children. She is survived by her children, Mary Anne Fricano (Joseph), Nancy Winegard, Marjorie Balder (Clifford), Elizabeth Drury (Jay), Robert Scannell Jr., Barbara Scannell and Joseph Scannell, her grandchildren, Melinda Rowley (David), Charles M Losa, Joseph Fricano Jr., Elizabeth Fricano, Leah Laviazar (Daniel), Andrew Scannell, Nicholas Scannell, Her great grandchildren, Sorrel Rowley, Lyssa Losa and Skyler Losa.. She was pre deceased by her beloved sister, Anna Salsille and her brother Frank Schnieder. Elizabeth worked at the foundling home in NYC and during WWII she worked at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. After raising her seven children Elizabeth became a dedicated home health aid until her retirement. She was very active in the Mothers Club at the Ghent school and was a Cub Scout leader. Elizabeth was a communicant of Saint James Church since she arrived in Columbia County. Family will receive friends Sunday, November 20th from 5 to 7pm at the French, Gifford, Preiter & Blasl Funeral Home, Chatham. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 1pm in Saint James Church, interment will follow at Saint James Cemetery, Ghent.
