Ferdinand (Fred) Jonas passed away on May 15, 2017 at the Caring Heart in Clovis CA. Born May 9, 1938 in the Bronx he was the son of the late Ferdinand and Mina Ahlers Jonas.
Fred was a graduate of City College of New York (CCNY), where he studied Civil Engineering. He spent two years in the US Army and was stationed in Germany, where he met and married, his loving wife, Barbel Ingrid Jonas.
Returning to the states they settled in Long Island to start a family. In 1975 they started that family welcoming Mark into their lives.
The family would move to Red Rock in 1978 and later to East Chatham in 1986.
Fred loved his wife and family unconditionally, and considered upstate New York the best place on earth to raise a family.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Mark and Jennifer, his grandchildren Madeline and Max, his brother Erwin and sister-in-law Joanne.
He was predeceased by the love of his life, his wife Babs in 2007.
Family will receive friends Friday from 4 to 7pm at the French, Gifford, Preiter & Blasl Funeral Home.
