Obituary

Florence Kern, of Ghent, NY. passed away on March 14, 2014 at Whittier Nursing Home, she was born February 28, 1921 in Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia. She traveled from Nova Scotia to Boston and finally settled here in Chatham as a young girl. Florence worked as an inspector at the Reilly Mills and Chester Mills. She married Edmund Holley and after his passing she later married Floyd Kern who predeceased her in the 70's. She is a member of Chatham Fire Department Auxiliary since 1952, Hudson Valley Auxiliary, Hudson Mohawk Auxiliary and a fifty year member of the Columbia County Volunteer Firefighters Association Auxiliary. Florence is also a member of Chatham American Legion Post 42 Ladies Auxiliary, the Seniors of Ghent and Chatham and a member of the Doers Club. She loved to entertain She is survived by her brother William A. Wood of Chatham and several nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends at the French, Gifford, Preiter & Blasl Funeral Home Chatham, on Sunday March 23rd. from 2-4 and 6-8pm. Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday, at 10am, please gather at 9:30am, interment will follow at Chatham Rural Cemetery.
