Florence G. Sheldon, 84 of Chatham passed away on January 21 at Columbia Memorial Hospital. She was born May 21, 1923 in Red Hook, NY the daughter of Garrett and Florence Minkler Staats. She was a graduate of Germantown High School and Albany Business College in 1941. Florence worked for N.Y.S. and retired in 1988. She was a member of Court #100 Order of Amaranth and past Matron, the 7th District Royalty Club, former Charity Chapter of the Eastern Star,the National Camping Travelers Club, and a  former member of Mt. Merino OES #366. She was predeceased by her husband Clyde, her daughter Gail L. Lawrence and her brothers; George R. Staats and Garrett R. Staats. Florence is survived by her sister-in-law, Eleanor Staats of Apex, NC. and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be Friday, January 25th from 6 to 8pm at the French, Gifford, Preiter & Blasl Funeral Home, 25 Railroad Avenue, Chatham.  Religious service will be celebrated at the funeral home on Saturday at noon, gather at 11:30am; interment will follow at Red Church Cemetery, Route 9G, Tivoli, NY. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Chatham Rescue Squad, Emmanuel Lutheran Church, or a charity of your choice.
