Florence Stalker-Ross 99 of Chatham, died Tuesday February 6, 2007 at the Barnwell Nursing Home in Valatie. She was born October 10, 1908 in Mill River MA. to Clinton F. and Dora Markert Ohms Stalker. She was one of ten siblings. Florence grew up and was educated in Mill River, MA. She was a member of the graduation class of 1926. From there she went on to nursing school in East Orange, New Jersey. After graduation she provided private home care in the Sheffield and Great Barrington areas of Massachusetts. She met and married Don Ross and moved to Chatham. Six years later Don was killed clearing mine fields in WWII and Florence again moved back to Massachusetts. After a short time she would move back again making Chatham her home for the rest of her life. She worked as a seamstress for Reilly's in Chatham and later at Chatco until she retired in 1972. She and her life time friend, Rose Staatz, enjoyed traveling having done two cross country trips, and enjoyed traveling Canada, they also loved fishing. Florence was best known for her love of family. She is survived by 3 sisters; Eleanor Stalker of Albany, Clara Kellogg of Bowie, MD. and Loretta Bradley of Mill River, MA. many nieces and nephews including nephew Doug Stalker of Chatham, NY, Florence's main care giver. She was predeceased by her brothers: Edward Stalker, Clinton Stalker, Watson Stalker, Irving Stalker, her sisters: Hilda Packard and Dorothy Stalker. The family will receive friends Friday, February, 9th. from 6:30 to 7:30pm. At the French, Gifford, Preiter and Blasl Funeral Home, 25 Railroad Avenue, Chatham.
