Florence Louise (Smith) Westover. 79, died on Saturday, September 9th, in Albuquerque, NM of cancer. Born In Chatham, NY, July 9th 1927, she was the daughter of the late Florence Mabel (Carter) and Charles Earle Smith. Mrs. Westover was a graduate of the former New York State College for Teachers, now State University of New York at Albany. She was a substitute high school teacher, strong in mathematics and social sciences. Florence was a lifelong member of the First Reformed Church in Chatham, NY and served as Assistant in Christian Education, deaconess and on Consistory. In 1970, Mrs. Westover began work as a caseworker for Child Protective Services and retired in 1989 as Director of Social Services, Columbia County, New York State. She is survived by her husband Palmer J. Westover, son Michael P. Westover of Chatham, son Gary C. Westover of Niverville, daughter Jeanne L. Tokarski of Albuquerque, son Jeffry G. Westover of Ghent, and her brother Harold E. Smith of Greenville, IL. She has four surviving grandchildren; Melissa, Greg, Dan and Sophia Westover. A memorial service will be celebrated by Pastor Gary DeWitt Saturday, October 7th. at 11am at the First Reformed Church, Chatham. Interment will follow at the Chatham Rural Cemetery.
