Obituary

Francis Anthony "Tony" Weaver Jr., passed away February 5, 2014 at Barnwell Nursing Home. Born May 14, 1935 in Pittsford, VT., he was the son of the late Francis A. Sr. and Mary Louise McCarty Weaver. Tony was in the 1953 graduating class from Chatham High School. He went on to serve his country in the US Army during the Korean War. Upon returning he went to work for NYSEG and would do so for 34 years until his retirement in 1994. He was a member of the Ghent Fire Company and the Ghent VFW 5933 and the Ghent Rod and Gun Club. Tony would volunteer for Meals on Wheels, the Ghent Food Pantry and the Ghent VFW Toy Drive repairing toys and getting them delivered. Tony is survived by his daughters; Debra ( Matt) Torrey and Melanie (Skip) Hogan both of Ghent, NY, his grandchildren; Adam (Carrie) Torrey, Josh (Beth) Hogan, Kristen Hogan and Samantha Torrey, great grandchildren; MaKayla Hogan and Noah Hogan,  siblings; Dolores Sherman, Terry Osburn, John R. Weaver, Marcia Parlman and Brian (Carol) Weaver. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 44 years, Janice Piester Weaver, brother, Jerold V. Weaver, sister, Joan Charron and granddaughter Kaitlin Torrey. Family will receive friends on Saturday February 8th from 9am to 10:30am at The French, Gifford, Preiter & Blasl Funeral Home, Chatham. Mass of Christian burial will follow at 11am in Saint James Church, Chatham. Interment will be at St. James Cemetery, Ghent. Memorials in Tony's name may be made to a charity of your choice.
