Franklin "Mickey" D. Holt passed away peacefully while surrounded by his family at Columbia Memorial Hospital on December 29, 2012. Born January 30, 1935, in Hudson, he was the son of the late John E. Sr. and Charlotte Karcher Holt.
He is survived by his wife , Alice, of 56 ½ years, his daughter Karen (Scott) Lent, sisters: Janet (George) Herrle, Dorothy (John) Donaldson, Dolores (George) Gebhard, June Strobel, brothers: Russell Holt, Walter Rath.
Predeceased by his brother John E. Holt Jr..
Mickey graduated from Chatham Schools, after which he was employed at Streaters. During his employment, he served his Country in the Army, and returned to work his way to become plant manager during his 20 plus years of service. When Streater closed their Chatham location he went on to work at Crellin Plastics as a purchasing agent and credit manager. Mickey worked there for 21 years before retiring.
Mickey enjoyed all sports, especially baseball. He had played high school ball and after graduating he played for the Blue Sox in the County League. As a young man he tried out for various professional ball clubs including the Boston Braves. He was inducted into the Chatham High School Hall of Fame in 2010. Mickey also loved music, being self taught on the guitar since he was a young boy. He especially liked country music, playing with the Stoney Mountain Boys band later known as Country Gold. He also was known to write some of his own music which was placed along with other known hits on a CD produced by Kenny Seigel at Old Soul Studios in Catskill. He was known as Chatham's yodeling cowboy.
He enjoyed animals and his family. Mickey will be missed for his sense of humor.
Family will receive friends at the French, Gifford, Preiter & Blasl Funeral Home, Chatham, on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 from 6 to 9 pm. Religious services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday at 11 am please arrive at 10:30 am. Interment will follow at the Ghent Union Cemetery.
