Obituary, Frederick W. VoelbelFrederick W. Voelbel, professional artist died November 30th. at Saint Peters hospital, Albany, he was 84. Born to Louis and Philipine Born Voelbel March 15, 1922 in New York City, he was educated there. He enlisted in the U.S Army Air Corps in 1942 serving in the China Burma Theatre during WWII; he was the recipient of the Bronze Star. After discharge from the Army, he attended art school in New York City and went on to advertising art in that city for ten years. In 1959, he accepted a position as a staff artist with the New York State Department of Commerce and moved to Chatham, with his family. Besides his commercial work, he was involved in fine arts, exhibiting in shows nationally and locally. He is survived by his wife, Madeline; a daughter, Mrs. Edwin (Lorraine) Martin, 3rd; a son, Frederick M. Voelbel; two granddaughters, Diana and Katherine Martin, a sister in law Mrs. Frank (Rose) Cappozzo and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Sunday December 3 from 2-4 pm at the French, Gifford, Preiter & Blasl Funeral Home 25 Railroad Avenue Chatham. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday by Rev. Gary Gelfenbien at the Saint James Church, Chatham, at 10 am. Interment will follow at the Saint James Cemetery, Ghent. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Heart Association in his memory.
