George C. Dixon died May 13, 2007 at Albany Medical Center. He was born March 18, 1934 in the Bronx, New York to George and Margaret Villanova Dixon Kuhn. He grew up in the Bronx and was educated there. After school he went into the Marines and later returned to Brooklyn, New York and went to work for the New York Central Railroad. It was this job that brought him to Columbia County. He met and later married Joanne (Every) Dixon on Christmas day 1960 in Claverack, New York. He and his wife settled in Chatham to raise their family. He left the Railroad and opened up the K&D Restaurant on Hoffman Street in Chatham for ten years. After that he went to work for Sterling Drug in Rensselaer as a machinist until he left in the late 70s. He was elected justice for the Village of Chatham in 1973 also being elected Justice for the Town of Ghent in 1975; he held both these positions for the rest of his life. He was a member of the Ghent VFW, American Legion Post 42, Catskill Elks and a member of the Chatham Fire Department for over 50 years. He was an avid tool (junk) collector and owned a complete set of Popular Mechanics Magazines going back to the 1930s. He enjoyed dancing and socializing and loved to read and do crosswords. His real love was his family and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 46 years Joanne (Every) , five children: Kevin & Kathleen Dixon, Ronald & Sandi Dixon, Shari Franks & Barry Rings, Kelly & Nick Baccaro, and Corey Dixon & Jodi Munson, nine Grandchildren; Jason & Spencer Franks, Ryan & Matt Gildersleeve, Kenneth Dixon, Nicholas Schram, Brandon Baccaro, Olivia and Austin Dixon, two brothers; Gerald Dixon and Charles Kuhn, one sister; Margaret Kuhn Basti, mother-in-law Mary Every, brother-in-law Butch Every and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and his brothers; Henry Dixon and Dr. John Kuhn. Family will receive friends at the French, Gifford, Preiter & Blasl Funeral Home, 25 Railroad Avenue, Chatham, NY Wednesday May 16th from 2-8pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday by Rev. Gary Gelfenbien at 9:30am at Saint James Church. Interment will follow at Chatham Rural Cemetery.
