Gerard J. Boehme, 62 of Ghent died Thursday, November 8, 2007 at home surrounded by his family. Born April 14, 1945 in Brooklyn, NY he was the son of the late Thomas and Rita (Wallace) Boehme. Along with his family, he moved to Ghent in 1947. He was a graduate of Chatham High School Class of 1964. After graduation he served in the U.S. Navy from 1965 - 1969 during the Vietnam War. In 1970 he began working for the New York State Thruway Authority as a Construction Equipment Operator and worked there until his retirement in 1999. After his retirement he worked as a substitute rural carrier for the U. S. Postal Service in Ghent. He married Regina Joeks on April 6, 1974, who survives him along with his 2 daughters and son-in-laws: Kelly and Jeffrey Cox of Old Chatham and Kristy and Christopher Frederick of Greenport; granddaughters Emily and Molly Frederick and a sister, Mary E. McDonald of Ghent. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. Gerard was a past member of both the Chatham and Ghent Volunteer Fire Departments and is a member of the Ghent V.F.W. and their Color Guard. He was a sports fanatic and history buff who also enjoyed spending time in his garden. His best time was spent with family, especially his granddaughters. Family will receive friends at the French, Gifford, Preiter & Blasl Funeral Home on Sunday from 3 to 8pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at the Church of Saint James in Chatham at 11 am. Interment will follow at the Saint James Cemetery, Ghent.
