Obituary

Gregory (Greg) Jude McEwan 54 of Chatham died July 1, 2014. Born November 12, 1959 in Pittsfield Ma, Greg was the son of the late John Alexander and Elisabeth (Bennett) McEwan of Canaan NY. He grew up in Canaan, and worked as a property manager, then house painter for many years. Greg obtained his HVAC accreditation through Hudson Valley Community. Greg was a music aficionado with an extensive music collection amassed over the last 40 years which he enjoyed with a Cuban cigar and a single malt scotch on occasion. An accomplished wood carver, he created original briar and deer antler pipes, sold locally as well as in Washington D.C. His love of the outdoors was evident in his beautiful flower gardens, as well as his body art. In April, 1982 Greg and Erica (Riki) Heintz began their life together which was to span the next 32 years. Married in 1986, they have a daughter Delia Elisabeth, who brought joy to his later life. Also surviving are his daughter, Crystal Shine, and his son, Duane Dawson both of Chatham; Grandsons, Tristiano and Michelangelo Burrows; and granddaughters Angelina Garcia, Viviana and Valentina McEwan. In-laws, Ruth and Don Bostwick; Brother in-law Aaron Heintz; siblings, Mark, Jay, Chris and Maribeth; 12 nieces and nephews, a host of great nieces/nephews and cousins, many friends and his dog, Porter. Besides his parents Greg was predeceased by his grandson, Damien, brother Bennett and niece Jolene. Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Celebration of Greg's Life, July 19, 2014 at Stoddard Field Canaan NY from 2-5 p.m. Bring your memories and a dish to share with family and friends. Memorial contributions may be made to the Red Rock Rural Cemetery Association, c/o Damaris Botick. Arrangements have been entrusted to the French, Gifford, Preiter & Blasl Funeral Home.
