Obituary

Guido "Butch" Lippera of Spencertown, passed away on Wednesday, November 07, 2012, at Columbia Memorial Hospital, Hospice Unit, after a long illness. Butch was born on April 25, 1941 in Hudson, New York to the late Nicola Lippera and Martha Palkus Robie.   A graduate of Hudson High School, he went on to become a successful restaurateur.  He opened the original Pizza Den in 1964 at 25 Hudson Avenue in Chatham, which eventually became the Italian Delight in Ghent, NY. In 1987, he "retired" from the restaurant business and turned his sights to automobiles.  He owned and operated Lippera's Pre-Owned Auto's and Jensen's Tire and Oil until 2001, when he decided to re-enter the restaurant business.  In 2002, he opened Lippera's Restaurant, while next door he painstakingly restored The Chatham House to its former glory.  In 2005, renovation was completed at The Chatham House and Lippera's Restaurant moved into its current location to great fanfare.  Butch and Monica were awarded the much coveted Columbia County Chamber of Commerce Crystal Apple Award that same year. Butch served in the Army Reserve and was given an honorable medical discharge in 1966.  He was a former member of the Washington Hose Fire Company in Hudson, NY and the Kinderhook Elks Lodge, Kinderhook, NY.  He was a long standing member of the Sons and Daughters of Italy and also a communicant at St. James Catholic Church in Chatham, New York. Butch is survived by his loving wife, Monica (Fedyk), his children: Donna Gedeon of Pomona, NY;  Tony Lippera of Los Angeles, CA;  Brian Kellogg of Austerlitz, NY;  Lea (Robert) Harvey of Chatham, NY and Nicole (Paul) Wrigley of Spencertown, NY,  and  his grandchildren:  Andrew and Christian Branley, Justin and Taylot Gedeon, Austin and Madison Kellogg and Lauren Wrigley and many nieces and nephews.  He was the brother to Patricia Sample, Toni Jean (Honey) Kellogg, Nina Pyronowski, Bonnie Eivella, Vicki La Mountain, Darlene Sturdevent, Alice Duquette, Sherry Colombari, Tony Robie, David Robie and George Robie all of Massachusetts and Maria Lippera of North Carolina Butch will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother.  A loyal friend to many, he was also a successful businessman and generous community member. Family will receive friends on Friday November 9th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm at St. James Church 117 Hudson Ave., Chatham. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated there on Saturday at noon with interment to follow at Cedar Park Cemetery, Hudson, NY.
