Obituary

Herbert Watson Woodward, known to all as "Woody," passed away March 2nd at home surrounded by his daughter, Janet, and granddaughter, Lily.  Born June 19, 1919 in Globe, Arizona, he was the son of the late Herbert W. and Charlotte F. Smith Woodward.  He was the husband of the late Eliza Little Woodward, of Virginia, who passed away on June 15th, 2011. Woody grew up in Arizona and then moved to southern California.  He attended Art Center School in Los Angeles, CA, where he studied photography. He was a Sergeant in the army. He fought in WWII in the European Theatre, receiving the Bronze Star. He lived for 50 years in New York City where he pursued his career in commercial photography. He also enjoyed woodworking and loved to ski. He married Eliza Little in 1971.  In 1985 they moved to Columbia County where they built their home.  They resided there together for 27 years. He is survived by his daughter, Janet Sweikert, his son-in-law Robert, and his three grandchildren, Lily, Emma, and Ryan. He was cared for, until the end, by a wonderful group of ladies and with the assistance of the Community Hospice of Columbia/Green Counties. A memorial service will be held at the home in May.  The date will be announced later.
