James A. Moon

June 20, 1946 — March 16, 2018

James A. Moon of East Chatham, New York, passed away on March 16, 2018 at his home. He was born June 20, 1946 in Pittsfield, MA and was the son of the late James G. and Carolyn Champney Moon. Jim served two and a half years active duty in Vietnam in the Sea Bees as Builder Third Class. When he returned to the states in 1968 he married Judith (Weller) and entered the NYS Police Academy. He served 23 years in Troop K-D and retired as Sergeant in 1991. Jim and his wife started a reloading and firearms business and in later years, a custom woodworking business. Jim is survived by his wife, Judy, sons; Brian (Karen) of Hyde Park and Evan (Kim) of Delmar, his four grandchildren, sister, Sharon of East Chatham, brothers; Bradley (Anita) of Homosassa, Florida and Terry (Mary) of East Chatham, and many nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends at the French, Gifford, Preiter & Blasl Funeral Home, Chatham, on Wednesday, March 21st from 4 to 7pm. Service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday at 11am. In lieu of flowers contributions in Jim's name may be made to the Red Rock Fire Company, 401 Co Rd 24, East Chatham, NY 12060 or to the Chatham Rescue Squad, PO Box 587, Ghent NY 12075.
