Jane Elizabeth (Burrows) Buchan born January 6, 1918, lifelong Chatham resident passed on April 14, 2012 at Columbia Memorial Hospital. She was the daughter of Mortimer and Alma Burrows and had been a recent resident of the Payn Residence and Barnwell Nursing facility.
Ninety-four years young, she was pre-deceased by husband John M. Buchan Jr. and son Douglas Buchan. Jane was also pre-deceased by her sisters and brothers: Doris Chapman, Laura Vosburgh, Betty West, Julia Tubbs, Mortimer Burrows Jr., and William Burrows.
She is survived by three daughters, Sandra Buchan (Robert Berlin), Susan Nelson (George), Gail Hinkle, four sons, Gary Buchan (Rhea), Bruce Buchan, Bradley Buchan (Gail), Jack Buchan (Andrea), seventeen grandchildren and thirteen great-grand children.
During her life, she worked at the Boston Candy Kitchen, sold Stanley Home products and World Book Encyclopedias and for many years, Jane wrote the "Along Main Street" column for the Chatham Courier.
She was known to everyone as "Mother Chatham". Jane was always there to lend a hand and did all she could for anyone. She lived her life for her family and is now in God's hands.
Calling hours will be Monday the sixteenth of April from 4-6pm at French, Gifford, Preiter & Blasl Funeral Home. A small service will follow at 6pm. Private burial will be at the family's convenience.
