Obituary

Jean Frances Hogencamp died on August 22, 2017 at Ellis Hospital after a short illness. Jean was born on December 30, 1926 in Norwich, CT to Frank and Dorothy Crone. She is survived by her sister Suzanne Conlon of California, daughters Angie Hogencamp, Mary Hogencamp (Jeffrey Chamberlain) and her sons William (Emilia), Eric and James (Catherine), four grandchildren, four great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Jean was predeceased by her husband, William Hogencamp in 2009. Jean Hogencamp lived a full life. She graduated from the University of Massachusetts with a degree in Chemistry. Her first calling was as a wife and mother who found time to help her children in all that they did. Her second calling included work in the laboratories of various hospitals and drug companies. She was the Director of the Laboratory at Columbia Memorial Hospital for many years. Her third calling was as a volunteer. While working full-time, she volunteered providing medical care to migrant workers in the 1960's and 1970's. She also found time to assist at Red Cross Blood Drives in the area. After she retired, Jean could be found helping drive people to medical appointments with the RSVP program, delivering food for Meals on Wheels and completing taxes with the AARP program in Florida and in Valatie. When she wasn't volunteering, Jean enjoyed her grandchildren, traveling with the Ghent Chatham Seniors, quilting, and playing cards with her friends at Tri-Village Seniors. She was a caring and generous person that touched the hearts of those she met and she will be missed. At her request, a Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at St. James Church in Chatham at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, August 29, 2017. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to any charity helping the people of Columbia County.
