Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we said good bye to a deeply loved and hugged Mom, gram and GG,

Jean Emily Piester Lanphear was Born January 17, 1930 in Hudson NY. Jean was called home on May 29, 2024 at Fairview hospital in Great Barrington Ma.

Jean graduated from Chatham High school and worked at the Bank of Albany after graduating.

She met the love of her life Richard Frederick Lanphear Sr while watching him play softball in the Chatham Mens Softball league. They were married on June 7, 1952.

She happily became a stay at home mom once having her three children; daughter Linda (Billy) Jackson with whom she has resided for the past 4 years, sons Darin and Richard Lanphear Jr.

She was preceded in death by her husband Richard Lanphear Sr., her parents Eugenia Birch Piester, Harold Piester Sr. And her siblings Norma Sitzer(Harry) Harold (Bud) (Laura) and Janice (Anthony) Weaver.

She is survived by one sibling Ronald (Butch) (Mary) Piester and many loved nieces, nephews as well as her immediate extended Jackson family.

Jean was known for making the best pie crust for her apple and lemon meringue pies. She passed the art of making her mother's homemade noodles down through the generations, a tradition that is made with love by her children, grand children and great grandchildren.

Just a year ago she rolled and hand cut her last batch of "grandma's noodles" which was enjoyed by the whole family.

Weekly family gatherings, after church, were a loved tradition for the whole family. Laughter, love, Sunday snacks, and grandma hugs were always in abundance. The visit was complete when she came out the back door and waved goodbye from her back step.

Jean was the sweetest soul a true angel on earth a "Jean hug" was something everyone looked forward to. Her hugs made you feel like everything was going to be OK .

She is survived by 9 grandchildren whom she loved every second with. She provided them with an abundance of love, adventures to the playground, trips to the dairy queen and the mastery of finding four leaf clovers. Ashley (Phil) Zwingelberg, Aleisha Jackson,

Benjamin (Chelsea) Lanphear, Erin Lanphear, Emily (Ethan) Clifford, Daniel, Crystal, Mistelle, and Tiffany Lanphear.

She also has 3 great grandchildren, Jackson, Rowyn, and Bennett Zwingelberg whom she loved dearly. She would quietly sit and watch their every move. You would hear a soft chuckle and see a big smile on her face as she watched them play.

Every Christmas Eve she would line them up on the hearth and read them Twas the Night Before Christmas, in preparation for Santa's arrival. This is only one of the many traditions that will be sorely missed.

Calling hours will be Saturday, June 1st from 9:30-10:30am at the French, Gifford, Preiter & Blasl Funeral Home . A mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am at St James church in Chatham NY., internment to follow.
