John J. Riscavage, affectionately known to many as "Johnny Love," passed away on April 29, 2026, at New York Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan with his wife by his side. Born on December 29, 1961, in Albany. The son of Joseph and Frances (Macarilla) Riscavage.

John’s career was a testament to his selfless nature. After graduating from Maple Hill High School and earning an associate degree in Criminal Justice, he embarked on a professional journey that spanned more than three decades, during which he saved countless lives and touched the hearts of many. He served with distinction as a firefighter for the Albany Fire Department for 20 years, where he also became a certified paramedic, exemplifying his dedication to emergency medical care. Upon retiring from Albany Fire, John continued his mission of service by joining the Greenport Rescue Squad full time. His efforts extended further as he supported the residents of eastern Columbia County through his work with the Community Rescue Squad. John dedicated his life to the care and service of others, leaving behind a legacy marked by courage, compassion, and unwavering commitment to his community.

Among his passions outside of his commendable career, John was an avid collector and enthusiast of model cars and held a deep affection for Star Trek. A devoted fan of the original series, he delighted in sharing his vast knowledge with those around him. His love for cars was perfectly embodied by his cherished '87 Monte Carlo SS, a striking vehicle he proudly showcased at local car shows and enjoyed cruising around the county with his beloved wife, Paula. John also found joy in watching NASCAR and treasured the times he spent traveling with Paula to Cape Cod, Maine, and Florida. Their spontaneous trips to Foxwoods to try their luck at the casino brought a joyful spontaneity to their shared adventures. Above all, John treasured his time at home with his family, which reflected his caring and deeply generous spirit.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Paula Riscavage, who stood by him through life’s journeys. His two daughters, Theresa (Christopher) Chakot and Courtney Riscavage, and a supportive stepfather to Gary Shook and his fiancé, Jocelyn Funk. John’s family circle expanded with three adoring grandchildren—Asher, Bently, and Aurora—with one more grandchild on the way. He is also survived by his parents, Joseph and Frances Riscavage, as well as two sisters, Karen (John) Ryan and Jane (Michael) Dellert, alongside numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
