Joseph Haag of Philmont went to eternal rest on July 18, 2015 at Pine Haven Nursing Home. Born November 27, 1924 in Hudson, NY he was the son of the late Robert and Mary Colwell Haag. He was predeceased by his identical twin brother, James C. Haag and half siblings Edward and Robert Haag.
He was a lifetime resident of Philmont attending Philmont High School he was also a life member of the Philmont Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Joseph Haag served during World War II and enlisted on January 1943 as a US Navy Gunner (Armed Guard) in the Merchant Marines and sailed both in the Pacific and Atlantic theatres. During his service in the Navy he received the Distinguished Service Medal, Two Star Hilner Commendation, and the Two-Star American Defense Ribbon. Joseph was also a member of the Philmont American Legion Post 252.
While in the Merchant Marines he met Irma Dixon and was married in 1951.
Joseph worked for High Rock Mills of Philmont and then in the maintenance department of BOCES for 19 years retiring in 1986. He enjoyed the outdoors, his garden and especially time in his boat.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-three years, Irma Dixon Haag, children: MaryJean Wildermuth,
Joseph Haag, Dianne Loomis, Edward Haag, Teresa Ouellette, Robert Haag, James Haag, eleven grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren
Family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 21st from 4 to 7pm at the French, Gifford, Preiter & Blasl Funeral Home, and Chatham. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at St. James Church, Chatham at 10am with interment to follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Philmont.
