Obituary

Joseph J. Litsermeyer, 74, of Valatie, NY, died January 12, 2007at Albany Memorial Hospital Hospice following a long illness.  Born In Brussels, Belgium, son of Marie (Hemstedt) and Felix Litsermeyer, he immigrated to Montreal, Canada in 1958.  He came to the United States in 1963 and lived in Florida and South Windsor, CT for many years.  He also lived in Erie, PA, Watertown, NY and Hutchinson, KS.  He graduated from University of Hartford (Connecticut) with Mechanical Engineering and MBA degrees, and worked in the specialty paper industry at C.H. Dexter Corporation, Windsor Locks, CT; Hammermill Papers, Erie PA; Premoid (James River Corporation), Brownville, NY and Columbia Corporation, Chatham, NY. He retired from the Republic Group, Paperboard Division in Hutchinson, KS in 2000. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Mary (Robbins) (Watson) Litsermeyer, two stepdaughters, Robin Starkey of Kempner, TX and Tracy Lanouette, of Dennis, MA; two granddaughters, Melissa Lanouette of Salem, MA and Melanie Lanouette of Norton, MA; a grandson, Stephen Deardeuff of Crocker, MO, and two great-grandchildren , Bryan and Lillian Deardeuff of Crocker, MO. He is also survived by a brother, Clement Litsermeyer, of Brussels, Belgium and several nieces and nephews in Belgium. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife, Colette (Bonneau) Litsermeyer, a son, Daniel, and a granddaughter, Nicole Lanouette. He was a member of the Niverville-Chatham United Methodist Church; Santa Rosa Lodge NO. 16 F&AM Milton, FL; Lodge NO. 1030, Loyal Order of Moose, Clearwater, FL; and Valley of Erie A.A. Scottish Rite in Erie, PA. Arrangements have been entrusted to the French, Gifford, Preiter and Blasl Funeral Home, 25 Railroad Avenue Chatham, NY.  Services will be private.  Memorial donations can be made to the Community Hospice of Columbia-Greene, 47 Liberty Street, Catskill, NY 12414.
