Joseph Edward Hyson Sr. died on July 2, 2014. Joseph was born in Pennsylvania on February 2,1935 and is the son of the late John A. and Florence McShea Hyson. He grew up and was educated in Pennsylvania where he was an active member of the Catholic Church serving as an Altar Boy and Youth Minister. Joseph attended Haverford High School, Villa Nova University and later attended and graduated with an MBA from Penn State University where he was a proud member of the Alpha Gamma Chapter of Delta Sigma Pi. Joseph remained an avid Nittany Lions football fan and attended many games through the years
After graduation he traveled to Greensboro NC where he began his career as a salesman in the steel industry. As he was promoted in the company, he and his family traveled throughout Maryland, Ohio and most of New England. Later in life he would become a financial and estate planner for IDS American Express where he worked until his retirement.
Joseph served on the Planning Board and Zoning Committee for the Town of Kinderhook and was the Fire Commissioner for the Village of Kinderhook. He was a member of the Kinderhook Elks and served as a Pack Leader for the Cub Scouts and Scout Master for the Boy Scouts. For leisure, Joseph enjoyed fishing, photography and travel.
Joseph was predeceased by his loving wife Virginia Hance Hyson. He is survived by his son Todd and Todd's wife Theresa, his daughter Whitney Elizabeth, and his sons Bart and Joseph Jr. Joseph is also survived by his brother John Hyson and John's wife Mary Lou and a sister, Jeanette Foley. Joseph has four grandchildren Candace Howley, Amanda Hyson, Gregory Hyson and Tiffany Buono, as well as many nieces and nephews. Joseph is also survived by Susan Matlock Hyson
Family will receive friends at the French, Gifford, Preiter & Blasl Funeral Home, Chatham, Wednesday, July 9th from 6 to 8 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at St. John the Baptist in Valatie at 10am. At Joseph and Virginia's, request Interment of both their ashes will follow at St. John's Cemetery.
