Obituary

Joseph Vincent Caramore of Chatham Died August 13, 2006 at Saint Peter's Hospice in Albany.  Born in Schroon Lake August 4, 1926 to James Vincent and Agnes O'Connor Caramore, he spent his early years in the Adirondacks where he developed an appreciation of the forever-wild beauty of New York State's northern region.  These experiences led to his love of outdoor life and created his enjoyment of hunting and fishing.  He and his wife hiked many miles together on the Appalachian Trail in the Mount Marcy region. His father's business had the family relocate to New York City when he was young. Living there he became quite familiar with the traffic routes and patterns.  This made it possible for him to establish his own livery service in 1995.  Chatham Towne Car Inc. specialized in travel to New York City, Boston and all the metropolitan airports. As a young man Joseph's first job was with the Federal Aeronics Administration. After extensive training at the FAA's facility in Oklahoma he became a ground-to-air specialist. This work entailed traveling to all major airports and led to a job offer from Safe-Flight Inc. in Westchester county in 1965.  He and his wife Margaret, whom he married in 1956, moved to Westchester.  The area being rural, at the time, allowed their mutual interest in Morgan horses.  Their hobby developed into a business of training and showing Morgans. By 1977 they needed more space for their growing horse business and purchased a farm in Verona, New York. Joseph loved the farm but missed his family this led him to buy a farm in Chatham in 1983.  This accommodated the horses and allowed him to be near his brother Vincent and his son William and daughter-in-law Marilyn and their growing family. The farm here needed extensive work and he was a handy man that had a vision and turned the farm into a beautiful place.  It allowed him to have a beautiful life with the Caramore's and their extended family and friends. He phase out of his horse business in 1993 and sold half of the farm.  A mass of Christian Burial was celebrated August 15th by the Reverend Gary Gelfenbien at the St. James Church I Chatham.  Interment followed at the Saint James Cemetery in Ghent.  In lieu of flowers the family has requested that contributions be made to the Hospice at Saint Peter's Hospital or the Albany Medical Center in Joseph's name.
