Keith Sitzer, age 71, of New Lebanon, NY, passed away on August 29 following a sudden accident that occurred five weeks ago. After a valiant three-week fight in the hospital, Keith’s journey came to a peaceful end. He leaves behind a legacy of immense strength, having inspired everyone around him by thriving for 31 years with a kidney transplant—a life-giving gift lovingly donated by his brother, Mark.

Keith was a 1972 graduate of Chatham High School. A proud Vietnam Era veteran, he honorably served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard. His dedication to his fellow veterans continued throughout his life, and in 2008, he was deeply honored to be named Legionnaire of the Year, presented by Chatham Post 42.

Following his military service, he apprenticed under Olle Nelson, where he mastered the building trade and discovered his true calling. Keith went on to spend his life working as a skilled carpenter, leaving a lasting legacy through the things he built and the craftsmanship he shared with the world. Keith, always a generous person, gave the ultimate gift following his death – the gift of life as an eye donor.

Keith is survived by his partner, Lisa Usyk; his brothers, Gary (Kathy), Harry Jr., Jeffrey (Catherine), and Mark (Caroline); his sister, Lori (John) Bartholomew; his niece and goddaughter, Amy Sitzer Knight; many beloved nieces and nephews; his best friend and Coast Guard buddy, Charles Cunningham; and his faithful canine companion, Allie.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Sitzer and Norma Piester Sitzer; his brother, Richard Sitzer; and his nephew, Justin Keller.

The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the emergency first responders, the med flight crew, and the Trauma Unit Medical Staff at Albany Med who fought alongside Keith and provided such compassionate care over those three weeks.

Keith’s family will host a celebration of his life at a future date.

Burial will take place at Saratoga National Cemetery at 11:00 am on Friday, November 27, 2026. Those wishing to attend are asked to please arrive no earlier than 10:45 am and please line up on the right hand side of the cemetery entrance no later than 10:55 am.
