Obituary

Lee M. Bowes, 75, passed away January 19, 2008 at Columbia Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family. Born September 24, 1932 in Chatham, NY, he was the son of the late Bruce C. and Helen (Collins) Bowes. He graduated from Chatham High School and also attended the University of Miami.  Lee served as a Corporal in the United States Marine Corp. from 1952-1955. He retired from the Columbia Corporation Specialties Division in 1994. Lee was the past Commander of American Legion Post 42 and a member of the VFW Post 5933. An avid sports enthusiast, he especially enjoyed golfing and following the New York Giants and Notre Dame Football games.  He was a long time coach of Chatham Little League Baseball.  Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and adored grandchildren. Lee is survived by his loving wife of 43 years Lorene (Tuczinski) Bowes, his loving children; Kevin (Michelle) of Greenport and Sharon (Richard) Martin of Sackets Harbor, NY, his dear sister; Constance Donohue of Chatham and his devoted brother; Robert (Dorothy) Bowes of Philmont, his seven grandchildren; Alexis, Hailey and Ryan Martin, Michael, Lauren, Stephen and Mathew Bowes and his many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be Tuesday, January 22nd from 4 to 8pm at the French, Gifford, Preiter & Blasl Funeral Home, Chatham.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at Saint James Church at 10am; interment will follow at Saint James cemetery.
