Louise Annette Christensen
Louise Annette Christensen ("Lulie"), 52, passed away suddenly on Easter Sunday, 2010, in an airplane crash near Ghent, New York. Louise was a lifetime adventurer who LIVED! her life. An advanced sailor (with the skill to earn a Coast Guard Captain's license), first mate and chef on luxury charter cruise yachts, she sailed the Atlantic, Pacific and Caribbean in the latter years of her career. Closer to home, Louise spent many "at-peace" hours sailing and racing her private boat on Lake Lanier, just north of Atlanta, where she was a member of the Barefoot Sailing Club.
A talented drummer, she shared her musical talents as a drum major of the Seed & Feed Marching Abominables, the hugely colorful and popular marching band that opens Atlanta's Inman Park Festival each year and was invited to perform at prestigious events such as the Spoleto Festival in Charleston, South Carolina. Louise was also a sailing instructor, skier, puppeteer, calligrapher and face painter. Fluent in French, she was learning Spanish and had an absolute passion for Volkswagen Westfalia campers (of the hippy variety).
Louise grew up in Rochester, New York, graduated from Bishop Kearney High School, and attended Alfred State College, earning a degree in Mechanical Engineering. She subsequently worked for Corning Glass in Foxboro, Massachusetts. Later, she attended Rochester Institute of Technology to study Communication Design. She built a loyal clientele as a successful graphic designer in Montreal, Canada, and then in Atlanta, Georgia, where she lived for approximately 20 years.
In 2008, Louise moved back to Rochester to care for her mother who suffered from Alzheimer's disease. She cared for her mother daily for nearly two years until it was time to place her in a nursing home. In late March, 2010, Louise moved to Otis, Massachusetts to join a new-found love, whose passion for flying had quickly become her own.
Louise is survived by mother Rita, sister Patt (Tim Farrell), brother Steve (Marianne), brother Peter, nephews Justin, Kyle and Christopher, niece Christina, Mickey Ratt, her equally-adventuresome and beloved, stuffed traveling companion, and many, many friends across the country and around the world.
A memorial celebration is planned in Atlanta at a later date, details to be announced. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Louise's name to the charity of your choice. To send an online condolence, please visit www.frenchblasl.com.
