Mark D. Whiteman, 56, of Ghent, NY, passed away December 13, 2010 at home surrounded by his family. He was born November 14, 1954 in Hudson, NY and was the son of the late Paul and Virginia French Whiteman.  Mark grew up in Spencertown and graduated from Chatham High School. He was married and then went into the Army and served in the 101st. Airborne. After returning from the service he and his wife traveled the country eventually returning to Columbia County. Mark went to work as an electrician for the Mohawk Valley Utility Company in Albany, NY. Mark enjoyed hunting, antiquing and history. He thoroughly enjoyed watching westerns.  He is survived by his wife, Roberta, his son, Jacob, his granddaughter, Marquelle Whiteman of Florida, his brother, Paul of Ghent, NY, his sisters; Lydia Neissel of Old Chatham, Laurie Anderson of Postenkill, NY and many nieces and nephews.  Mark was predeceased by his sister, Sandra Carey and son, Mark Jr.  Family will receive friends Thursday, December 16th  from 6 to 8 pm at the French, Gifford, Preiter and Blasl funeral home, 25 Railroad Avenue, Chatham.
