Obituary

Martin Chase Schmitt, a resident of Chatham, New York, was born March 13, 2001 and passed away on November 25, 2021. Martin attended high school at Taconic Hills Central School. Where he was a member of the soccer, swimming, tennis, and baseball teams. Martin was also the Vice President of the Class of 2019. In both his junior and senior years he was a student at Questar in the Aviation program. Martin worked for Greenagers alongside his friends for two summers forging new trails in Columbia county. After highschool, he enlisted in the US Navy; shortly thereafter he attended Hudson Valley Community College where he studied clean energy management. He loved playing trumpet with his Popa Marty in the Ghent Band and recently played a duet with him at the West Copake Reformed Church. Martin also loved to go fishing with his many friends and his Popa Pete. Some of Martin's other favorite pastimes were cooking and hiking with his girlfriend Jen. Martin was the sweetest, kindest, and most loving son, brother, grandson, uncle, nephew, boyfriend and friend anyone could have asked for. He will be deeply missed and never forgotten by his many friends and family. Martin is survived by his mother Dana O'Leary, father Martin Schmitt Jr., and stepmother Rebecca Schmitt. His siblings Willow Day, Lily Schmitt, Christian Schmitt and his niece Oceana Brown. His grandparents Marty Schmitt Sr., Ellen and Peter Davis, and Terry and Jane O'Leary. His uncle Darren O'Leary and his aunts Analyn O'leary and Marlene Powers. His cousins Elliana and Gavin O'Leary and MaryJane and Charlie Fields. Also, the love of his life Jen Runyon and too many friends to list.
