Obituary

Chatham, N.Y. – Mary Louise Maynard passed away November 25th after a long illness.  Born June 28, 1923 in Troy, NY she was the daughter of Clifford and Jennie Duke Sayer. Mary grew up and received her early education in Chatham.  She received her Bachelors degree in Home Economics from Russell Sage College.  After college she married Kiah Maynard on August 7, 1947.  She spent her time raising her four daughters and after they had grown she returned to college, attending C.W. Post and received her Masters in Library Science in 1979. She was the Librarian of the Chatham Public Library from 1979 until she retired in 1992.  Mary loved local history and would be invited to speak at many venues throughout the county.  She would love to share her knowledge and her slide shows. she enjoyed traveling and photography but enjoyed her family time above all. Mary is survived by her four daughters; Katharine Logan, Carol and husband Robert Pinto, Janora and husband Charles Stone and Ann and husband Steve Pinto, 11 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, her brother; Robert and wife Nancy Sayer of Chelsea, MI and 3 nieces also from MI.  She was predeceased by her husband Kiah Maynard in 1963. Family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 pm at the French, Gifford, Preiter & Blasl Funeral Home (Chatham, NY).  A funeral service will be held on Thursday at the funeral home at 11am.  Burial will follow at the Chatham Rural Cemetery. Contributions may be made to Caring Together, PO BOX 12383, Albany, NY 12212 in her memory. This organization helps victims of ovarian cancer.
