Mary E. Boehme McDonald, 73, of Ghent and Boiling Springs, NC, died on December 10, 2015 . Born July 18, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Rita (Wallace) Boehme. After graduating from Chatham High School, she attended Albany Medical Center School of Nursing, and graduated in 1963. She worked at Columbia Memorial Hospital, as an RN and then as Nursing Supervisor. She also worked for many years at Green Manor Nursing Home, as RN and later as Assistant Director of Nursing. Most recently, she worked as an RN at Ocean Trail Nursing Home in Southport, NC, until her retirement in 2013. She was a communicant of Saint James Church in Chatham, a member of the Ghent Fire Dept Ladies' Auxiliary and a life member of the Ghent VFW Ladies' Auxiliary. She took great pleasure in volunteering for the Ghent Food Pantry, and she was always willing to help whenever an extra set of hands was needed. She married Daniel McDonald on July 16, 1976. In addition to her husband she is survived by sons Miles McDonald of Martinsburg, NY, Thomas McDonald of Oak Island, NC and Sean Downing of Painsville OH. She is also survived by grandsons Galen and Liam McDonald and granddaughters Amelia McDonald and Savannah Downing. She was predeceased by her parents and by her brother, Gerard Boehme. Family will receive friends at the French, Gifford, Preiter and Blasl Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 16, from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint James Church on Thursday December 17 at 10 am. Interment will follow in the Saint James Cemetery in Ghent.
