Schoenfeld, Mel., 5/27/30-3/14/13. Succumbed to a nasty and formidable adversary with grace, courage and dignity, even under the most terrible circumstances. He left behind his heartbroken, devoted wife, lover, and best friend, Audrey. She will hold him in her heart interminably, along with his loving children, Gary (Linda), Mitchel (Linda) and Regina. Survived by loving grandchildren Jamie (AJ), Michael S., Amanda, and Michael A., who will cherish him always; adoring and adored brother Bart, treasured sister-in-law Jody, loving sister Eileen, dearest sister-and brother-in-law Myrna and Stan Abes, legions of nieces, nephews, extended family, colleagues and friends. Mel was a smart and funny guy; witty, talented, clever, compassionate and wise. He knew where true north was; his compass always the perfect guide. He was a writer, an award winning "ad man", a Marine, a pilot, a guru to his gym buddies, a gourmet cook, a voracious reader, an avid gardener, a maniacal sports fan, and a true friend to many. He loved and appreciated genuine people, fine food, eclectic music, laughter and life. He was the heart and soul of his family. He worried about the state of the world for the future of all our children and devoured the Sunday news shows keeping apace with the ever changing world. A special man of tremendous character; his word was golden, as was his smile. He was "movie-star" handsome, but never believed it. To know him was truly to love him. Words cannot express how much and in how many ways he will be missed and remembered by all those whose lives he touched, with the deepest and most abiding love.
The family is requesting no flowers. If you wish, you may contribute to a charity of your choice in Mel's name.
